BUSINESS ENGLISH COURSE PROGRAMME

COURSE 1: BUSINESS ENGLISH FOR A CAMBRIDGE EXAM (BEC)

Business English is the main focus of this course. You will be  looking at a wide range of business-related topics from Job Satisfaction, Corporate Social Responsibility, Leadership and many others. In addition you will be practising some very relevant business communication skills:

  • summing up and presenting information
  • stating your opinions and reacting to others’ opinions in meetings
  • describing graphs
  • business correspondence
  • writing reports and proposals

The course duration: from 6 months to 18 months depending on the participants’ levels.

COURSE 2: ENGLISH FOR MEETINGS

The main focus of this course is to help you participate in meetings more effectively.

You will learn how:

  • to state your opinion
  • to ask other participants to clarify their opinions
  • to agree with their opinions
  • to express reservations
  • to disagree with their opinions diplomatically and more directly
  • and to even learn how to lead a meeting

You will become familiar with a lot of new language and you will be able to practise it together with the language you already know by doing roleplays with your collegues and benefit from feedback you will receive from them and your trainer.

The course duration: from 10 to 20 weeks.

COURSE 3: ENGLISH FOR PRESENTATIONS

The main focus of this course is to help you become a more competent presenter.

You will learn how:

  • to make an effective opening
  • outline the structure of your talk effectively
  • to take the listener through your presentation in a smooth manner by providing the right links between different parts (signposting)
  • to keep the listeners’ attention by interacting with them
  • to comment on visuals
  • to sum up your presentation effectively
  • to invite questions and to deal with them competently

You will practise these skills by doing real-life presentations in front of your colleagues and benefit from their and your trainers’ feedback.

Duration: 10 to 20 weeks

COURSE 4: BUSINESS WRITING

Different types of business writing are the main focus of this course.

  • different types of e-mails
  • typical language and conventions of writing reports, proposals and business letters

Duration: 10 to 20 weeks.

A special focus on commenting on a company’s performance in the form of graphs and figures can be incorporated as a secondary focus.

COURSE 5: TELEPHONING

This course has its main focus on telephoning skills. It will help you feel more confident when taking or making a call:

  • when putting a caller through
  • when making an appointment
  • when promising action

When talking on the phone you can’t see the person you are communicating with. So it becomes even more important to be able to have a stock of phrases and sentences typically used in such situations at the tip of your tongue and to use them with confidence.

Practice based on role-play will help you with this.

Duration: 10 to 20 weeks.

COURSE 6: CUSTOMER SERVICE SITUATIONS

The aim of this course is to help you function more confidently and effectively in face-to-face customer service situations.

You will practise:

  • how to ask the customer for details
  • how to inform the customer of available options
  • how to suggest alternatives
  • how to make sure that you have got the customer’s input right
  • how to explain conditions etc.

When communicating with a customer, it is essential that you not only speak correctly but also express yourself in ways which are appropriate for a specific situation. This would normally mean being neutral but polite, keeping a certain amount of distance but at the same time not being perceived as too distant or cold.

How can you achieve this in English, a language that makes no use of polite forms such as Sie in contrast to the informal du but uses only one word to address people – you? On this course you will learn other verbal means of expressing politeness and practise them with your colleagues in numerous roleplays.
